Certificate in Counselling People
Who Have Eating Disorder

Please note that it is possible to reserve your place by paying a deposit of £150 when booking onto the course. The balance of £150 will be required no less than one month before the course commences. Deposits are non- refundable.
 

This is what Maureen and Diana say about the course that they are offering:

Key themes covered during the course will include:

• The eating distress continuum and eating disorders.
• A model of an eating disorder cycle.
• Attachment, loss and eating distress.
• Nutrition, eating distress and health.
• Obesity.
• Breaking the cycle of an eating disorder.
• Working with clients who have eating disorders or other forms of eating distress.

On completion of this 6 day course, participants will be more able to:

• Understand how certain key factors may link to form an eating disorders cycle.
• Know the criteria by which eating disorders are defined.
• Have an awareness of the symptoms and consequences of eating disorders.
• Have increased awareness of their relationship with food.
• Identify some strategies which can be helpful when working with people who experience emotional eating and reflect on how these may or may not be integrated into their way of being with clients.

Please note:

• The course will consist of 3 x 2 day modules, each day 10.00 – 17.00.
• A commitment to attend all 6 days is expected.
• Participants will be asked to keep a food, mood, behaviour and attitude diary.
• The group is likely to find some content of the course emotionally demanding.
• It is therefore expected that participants have access to appropriate support
should they require it.
• Participants will discuss and decide about requirements for assessment and
any written work.

Maureen Schiller, BA (Hons) Person-Centred Counselling, MBACP(Accred).

Maureen is an eating disorders practitioner, who is also a counsellor, supervisor and trainer with a private practice in Chalfont St Giles. Her work in the field of eating disorders goes back some years to 1977, when she was a founder member of the committee which developed the Self-Help Network of Anorexic Aid, which was later incorporated in a merger to become part of Eating Disorders Association. During the last 15 years, Maureen has initiated and developed services and resources about eating disorders, starting the Chiltern Helpline and founding Eating Disorders Support (Chiltern). She is also the founder of Chiltern and Thames BAPCA.

Maureen has recently been focusing her energy on a new project, developing multimedia resources about eating disorders and the underlying issues. She will be using the content of these resources on this Certificate course.

Diana Wright, BSc Hons Dip Ion Bant.

Diana is a Food Scientist and Nutrition therapist with a private practice in Amersham and in London. She has 8 years experience in the field of nutrition.

Diana's areas of expertise include endocrine disorders, such as hypothyroidism, diabetes and the menopause and children with autism and learning difficulties. Diana also specialises in cancer, candida, food intolerances, digestive disorders and weight management. She has spoken on the subject of the empowerment of nutrition at various conferences as well as to charity groups, small women groups and to schools.
